Hello Everyone!

Broccoli is one of my favorite foods! I wanted to share a very quick, simple, but delicious recipe for cooking broccoli. This recipe will compliment almost any meal, and is great for when you’re short on time. 

But first, let’s talk about the benefits of broccoli! 

  • Broccoli is listed under the category of cruciferous vegetables, and has a naturally occurring compound called Sulforaphane. This compound is known to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. Sulforaphane is sensitive to heat, so it is important to limit the broccoli’s cooking time to about 5 minutes in order to preserve the Myrosinase, which enables the Sulfoaphane to be formed. 
  • Broccoli is naturally low in calories and high in fiber 
  • Broccoli is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin K, Potassium, Folate, and some Calcium
  • Broccoli is also pretty inexpensive in the grocery stores as well, which is always a plus!

Below is an easy recipe to try. Add broccoli to your next meal, and share a picture of your food with me!

 Ingredients: Fresh broccoli, lemon, fresh ground pepper, and coconut oil

 Step 1: Begin heating pan and coconut oil on medium heat

 Step 2: Chop broccoli into florets

 Step 3: Add freshly ground black pepper and any other low sodium seasoning of your choice

 Step 4: Cover broccoli and steam for about 5 minutes, or until tender (DO NOT OVERCOOK, as this will strip the broccoli of it's health benefiting nutrients!)

 This broccoli recipe perfectly pairs with any meal! I combined the broccoli with a chicken breast for a nutritious lunch.
